Uruz rune meaning

In the Rune Poem

The aurochs is untamed and high-horned: fierce it roams the moor — a creature of courage that will not be broken.

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem (10th c.)

Reversed (merkstave)

• Weakness
• Illness
• Missed Opportunity
• Brutality

Weakness, Low Vitality, Misdirected Force. Reversed, Uruz signals vitality running low: health asking for care, strength turned against yourself, or a chance to grow that slipped by unnoticed. Restore the body before demanding from it; master the bull before it drags you.

In a spread

In the past

A trial of endurance already lived — illness overcome, raw effort, a season that demanded the whole body — forged the ground of what happens now.

In the present

The primal force is active: health, vigor and the power to shape the situation with your own hands. It is time to act with the body, not only the head.

In the future

It announces recovery and growing vigor: what was fragile strengthens, what was a plan grows muscle. Manifestation will come through organic persistence, not haste.

As advice

Tend the vessel first: body, sleep, vitality. The tradition sees in Uruz the fertilizing rain — water the root before demanding the fruit.

The aett

Uruz belongs to the aett of Freyr, the cycle of creation — the forces that beget life, wealth and bond in the manifest world.
