    Look at the image

An armoured skeleton rides a white horse carrying a black banner; the sun appears between distant towers.

    The central meaning

An ending that makes room for transformation.

    In practice

An old habit, role or phase may need to be acknowledged as finished. Explore what can be released and what deserves to continue in a different form. This card is not evidence or a prediction of physical death.

    Shadow and reversed

Clinging to what has ended or destroying something impulsively before understanding it. Change need not become a demand to abandon everything. Resistance to change.

    In love

The end of a relationship, or a change of phase.

    At work

A career change or the end of a project.

    Spiritual essence

The Great Transformation. Not the end of life, but the end of form. The alchemical putrefaction required for gold to be born. The skeleton is what remains when the illusion of flesh falls away: the naked truth.

    Practical imperative

Let it die. Cut, clear, conclude. Do not try to revive what has already ended — the relationship, the job, the habit. Clear the ground. The pain comes from resisting the end. Grieve, so the new can breathe.

    Whisper of the shadow

Necrosis. Refusing to change breeds stagnation and decay. Fear of endings turns life into a zombie existence. Beware deep depression, or the inability to close a cycle.

    A question to reflect on

What has changed beyond returning to exactly the way it was?
